Murdered woman’s body found in house

The body of a 60-year-old woman allegedly murdered while sleeping on a mat at her home in Watinapaha, Minuwangoda, was found around 9.00 a.m. yesterday.

Munasinghe Arachchige Catherine Mallika Munasinghe, a mother of three, was living on her own. The neighbours who noticed that her house was broken into, and on inquiry found her body, Minuwangoda Police said.

Police suspect a relative of the woman as responsible for the murder. Minuwangoda Acting Magistrate, Mangala Warnasuriya who conducted the magisterial inquiry, ordered the body to be sent to the Gampaha Base Hospital for a post-mortem. Investigations are continuing.
