Sri Lanka postpones Katchatheevu fest for Jayalalithaa

Chennai: The Sri Lankan Government has postponed the consecration of the Katchatheevu church, slated for Wednesday, as mark of respect to the late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

“We have postponed the consecration as mark of respect to the late CM. The new date will be announced later”, V. Krishnamoorthy, Sri Lankan Deputy High Commissioner at Chennai said.

He said his government had already informed Delhi that 20 pilgrims from India would be allowed to participate in the Katchatheevu function and they would be permitted to land at the Palk Strait islet for the occasion once the date for the ceremony got finalised.

“This sanction followed a request from Pon Radhakrishnan, the Indian Minister of State for Ports and Highways”, Krishnamoorthy told the Deccan Chronicle.
