Petroleum Industries Minister Chandima Weerakkody refuted allegations thatthe Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) was receiving insufficient petroleum for power generation.

“There is absolutely no truth to the story,” the Minister said,

dispelling rumours there could be a disruption to electricity supply - ‘Continuity can be reassured.”

The minister said following news reports that the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) was supplying insufficient fuel to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), a meeting between the two ministers had taken place to investigate the allegation.

“The Minister of Power and Renewable Energy and myself met in the aftermath of this report to look into this allegation and we find there is no basis for it,” the minister said.

“There is a weekly stock review meeting at the CEB, where these things are discussed, and in the aftermath of the report that the CEB was receiving insufficient fuel from the CPC, leading to dependency on hydropower and the possibility of power disruption, I have begun attending even the weekly stock review meetings,” the minister said.

“The requirement by the CEB is being supplied by the CEP,”he said. “There is no truth to the story, there is no reason to be panicked, there will be no inordinate disruption to electricity supply, continuity can be reassured,” the minister added.
