Sri Lanka Police University coming up in Attidiya soon

Plans are underway to set up a University for Sri Lanka Police in Attidiya, the Law and Order and Southern Development Ministry Progress Report tabled in Parliament last week stated.

According to the report, arrangements are underway to obtain assistance from universities in Nottingham and Liverpool in Britain and Deakin University in Australia for the initiative. The proposed exclusive University for Sri Lanka Police will accommodate approximately 500 students including police officers as well as officers engaged in parallel professions annually.

Preliminary degree courses including a Bachelor of Science Degree in Police Science and Bachelor of Arts Degree in Police Administration as well as post graduate degrees pertaining to the discipline concerned will be made available in this university.

The report said a committee instituted by the ministry has drawn out plans for the implementation of this proposal.

“For the proposed police university, a land in extent of 16 acres in the Attidiya area belonging the Police Department has been earmarked and preliminary arrangements to set up the university have been set in motion,” the report said.
