International schools will be regulated: Education Minster

A new mechanism will be introduced to regulate international schools, Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said.

He said this would fall under the educational reforms the government has planned for the future.

The Minister said the international schools would be regulated through the Sri Lanka Education Inspectorate - an institution that will be established under the new education reforms.

The Minister also emphasized the necessity of implementing new laws to enable the Education Ministry to monitor and regulate quality education to pupils studying in international schools:

”Since we have received information with regard to the charging of exorbitant fees by some private schools, the government is currently in the process of formulating new mechanism to avoid this situation in the future,” he said.
