Holding elections sans corrections, an injustice to people: SLFP Gen. Secy

Rather than holding Local Government Elections early, what was most essential is to introduce a problem free hundred percent accurate system of elections, said Agriculture Minister and SLFP General Secretary Duminda Dissanayake.

"If an election is held along with shortcomings by not rectifying the problems which arose during the delimitation process, it would cause an injustice to the people," he said.

He said that during the delimitation process, certain villages had been separated from two to four sections causing confusion. The government had no desire to impose an election on the people forcibly without listening to their grievances and problems, he said. The short delay in holding Local Government elections was caused in order to correct these shortcomings and not because the government had any fear of facing elections.
