The Ministry of Power and Energy yesterday, amended to one hour in the morning, and half-an-hour in the evening, the time slots for power-cuts to parts of the island.

On Saturday, the Lakvijaya Power Plant in Nororchcholai ‘tripped’ and has been out of commission since.
The Power and Energy Ministry warned that power-cuts were imminent, to manage demand.
Power cuts were initially slotted at two-and-a-half hours in the morning and an hour at night, but were reduced, after the Mahaweli Authority agreed to release more water for hydropower generation.
The power-cuts are expected to last no more than five days – that is, until Friday (21), the Power and Energy Ministry said.
