NCCSL Entrepreneur Awards 2016 on November 9

The National Enterprise Development Authority (NEDA) assured that Sri Lankan Micro, Small and Medium Entrepreneurs (MSMEs) will create over 900,000 employment opportunities during the next five years.

NEDA Chairman and Director General Omar Kamil made these remarks at a media briefing conducted by the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka to create the awareness of Sri Lankan entrepreneurs about the official launching of ‘Entrepreneur Awards 2016 competition - Western Province’.

He said launching such competitions will help to achieve the government’s one million job target within the next five years .

The awards competition is open for Sri Lanka’s Micro, Small and Medium entrepreneurs in the Western Province and the grand Awards Ceremony ,the ‘Entrepreneur Awards 2016 Western Province will be held in Colombo on November 9 with the participation of a large number of local entrepreneurs who committed a tremendous service to uplift the country’s industrial, manufacturing agriculture, Livestock and fisheries and other related service sectors. Representatives from local business organizations and Government sector will also attend the Awards Ceremony.

NEDA Chairman Kamil said Sri Lanka has over 1.91 million micro, small and medium entrepreneurs and 98 percent of them belongs to MSMEs and the balance two percent belongs to large business enterprises.

“The Government’s objective is to encourage all entrepreneurs by granting them with financial assistance to start various employment generating projects,” Kamil said.

Highlighting the newly commenced ‘Graduate Entrepreneurship Scheme’, Chairman Kamal said recently NEDA selected many graduates from Wayamba University who have innovative business ideas and help them to start various business projects by granting financial assistance by NEDA.

National Chamber of Commerce (NCC) President, Thilak Godamanna said entrepreneurs in the Western Province could take part in the competition and the objective of holding the Entrepreneur Awards ceremony is to motivate and encourage entrepreneurs in Western Province as well as in all other districts.
