86th Sir John Tarbet Senior Athletics:Three more records on second day

Three new meet records were set up on the second day of the 86th Sir John Tarbet Senior Athletics Championship worked off at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Diyagama, Homagama yesterday.

MS Kumarasinghe of A Ratnayake College, Walala established a new meet record in the Under-18 Girls 800m final. Kumarasinghe clocked 2.13:4 minutes erasing the previous record of 2.14:8 minutes set by Nelum Kularatne of Elapatha MMV, Ratnapura in 2004. The day’s second record was created by Ridma Nishadi of Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda in the Girls Under-16 Triple Jump final. Nishadi’s record distance was 12.21 metres to win the gold.

A Ratnayake College, Walala’s AK Madushanka set up a new meet record in the Boys Under-18 2000m Steeple Chase final with a winning time of 6.05:9 minutes.

The meet is serving as a selection trial for the South Asian Junior Athletic Championships in India next month.

Under-18 3000m: Eranda Madusanka (President’s College, Ambagasdowa) 9.05:2 min and Dhananjaya Alwis (Sri Rahula College, Katugastota) 9.06:0 min.

Under-16 Discus Throw: Nipun Dilrukshan (St Mary’s College, Chilaw) 48.29m, Pasindu Nimasara (St Sebastian’s C, Kandana) 46.97m, Ananth Balachandran (Hartley CC, Point Pedro) 45.27m, Dilhara Perera (St Benedict’s College, Colombo 13) 45.05m.

Under-20 400m Hurdles: Uditha Chandrasena (Maris Stella College, Negombo) 53.8 secs.

Under-16 400m Hurdles: Kumod Hansindu (Dharmapala, Pannipitiya) 56.6 secss and Sihal Dakshitha (Maris Stella College, Negombo) 57.3 secs.

Under-18 400m Hurdles: PL Kodikara (Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala) 54.6 secs, Shehan Lahiru (Maris Stella College, Negombo) 55.9 secs.

Under-20 Pole Vault: S Dilakshan (Mahanajana College, Thelippalai) 4.30m

Under-16 200m: Adeesha Anjana (Lumbini College, Colombo 5) 22.5 secs, Kavindu Bandara (Asian Grammar School) 22.8 secs, Milinda Perera (St Mary’s College, Chilaw) 22.9 secs, PP Piyumika (Kirillawela CC) 23.0 secs, Sachin Seneviratne (Royal College, Colombo 7) 23.6 secs and Adeepa Dunasena (Asoka Vidyalaya, Colombo 10) 23.6 secs.

Under-18 800m: HS Karunaratne (A Ratnayake CC, Walala) 1.55:4 min, Pasindu Mihiranga (Nalanda College, Colombo 10) 1.56:4 min, SN Jayasinghe (Kegalu Vidyalaya) 1.56:6 min, IS Edirisinghe (Bandaranaike College, Gampaha) 1.59:1 min.

Under-16 400m Hurdles: AK Sathsarani (Ambagamuwa CC, Hatton) 1.07:4 min

Under-16 200m: Piumini Weerasooriya (St Joseph’s BMV, Kegalle) 26.3 secs, Sadeepa Henderson (Gateway College, Rajagiriya) 26.6 secs and Yashini Dahanayake (Yasodara Vidyayala, Colombo) 26.8 secs.

Under-18 200m: Shermila Jan (Gateway College, Rajagiriya) 25.1 secs, Kst Divyanjali (St Joseph’s GC, Colombo 14) 25.1 secs, Shafiya Yamik (Viharamahadevi BV, Kandy) 25.2 secs, Natali Malpana (Gateway College, Rajagiriya) 25.8 secs, MS Kumarasinghe (A Ratnayake CC, Walala) 25.9 secs.

Under-16 Long Jump: Prasadi Lakshani (Holy Cross Vidyalaya, Gampaha) 5.48m.
