No coal power plant in Sampur: AG

Deputy Solicitor General Sanjaya Rajaratnam, on behalf of the Attorney General, informed Supreme Court today that a coal power plant would not be constructed in Sampur.

The decision follows a Fundamental Rights petition by the Environmental Foundation Ltd., objecting to the use of coal for power generation, and the proposed Sampur Coal Power Plant.

Deputy Solicitor General Sanjaya Rajaratnam informed Court that the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy had made the decision not to go ahead with constructing the plant.

Proceedings pertaining to the FR petition filed by the Environmental Foundation Ltd., were thereafter terminated.
