SEARO 69th annual sessions today

The 69th annual sessions of the South East Asian Committee of the World Health Organisation (WHO SEARO) will be held in Colombo from today to 9.

The inaugural sessions will be held at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre today in Colombo with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe attending as chief guest.

Eleven countries including Bangladesh, Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea and Timor are members of the South East Asian Region committee.

Health and Indigenous Medicine Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne will chair the sessions attended by health ministers and officials of India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Maldives, Bhutan, Timor, North Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar and Sri Lanka.

The delegates are billed to participate in yoga and other exercises held at the Galle Face Green on September 6 and 7 at 6.30 a.m. and tour Kandy on September 8 with a visit to the Sri Dalada Maligawa and an inspection tour of the Kadugannawa old hospital complex in their itinerary.
