Theatrical Night of Bridal Fashion

September 18 will be a day for brides-to-be to grab their partner and drag him to the halls of Hilton Colombo and begin the ‘actual’ planning of their wedding. The Hilton Ballroom will be transformed to an exhibition venue where Colombo’s No. 1 Wedding Planning brands come together under one roof.Soon after the exhibition, the halls will be go back in time to the 1920s and showcase a bridal show that truly will be theatrical.

Brides of Sri Lanka, one of the oldest bridal magazines in the country, has partnered with Hilton Colombo to make the above mentioned happen, all for a worthy deserving cause. Themed ‘A Wedding Affair by Brides of Sri Lanka’, this event will be held to raise funds for the Maharagama National Cancer Hospital.

“In the beginning of the year, we were thinking of supporting a good cause which was to support the PET Scan project and this is how this idea came about. As a company we do many CSR activities but we don’t talk about it. But here, I have to talk about it because we need to let people know why they are doing it. It would be great if full support is given so that a lot of people who come will benefit in one way in able to plan their weddings which is coming up and same way help for a good cause”, Hilton Colombo General Manager Manesh Fernando said at a press conference held recently.

The morning event will take place from 11am to 4pm and the evening event will take place from 6pm.

“The function is on September 18 and we are starting the main show around 7pm. We are expecting around 600 to 700 guests to a theatre style seating. The tickets priced in two ranges is all inclusive of cocktails, canapés and a pre-dinner snack, will be available at the Hotel Public Relations Desk from Monday (September 5) to Friday from 9am to 5pm. There will be 16 stalls at the event. My request is for all the brides to visit this show as under one roof you can meet all the vendors related to weddings. Noritake is also having a stall and they will be having a raffle draw where they will be giving big gift packs for the lucky winners. Hilton will also have their own stall along with other vendors who will have many prizes and discounts”, Hilton Colombo Conference & event Director of Sales Arosha Perera stated

“I want to thank Manesh, Gigi, Yasanthi, Arosh and Hilton Colombo for joining hands with us to be a part of this wonderful event we are having in store for you. To talk about the charity event, the PET scanner project created awareness for the much needed things for the cancer hospital and patients. Our desire to fulfill these needs made us want to have this wonderful bridal show to raise funds for the cancer hospital and the patients. I was told in 2020 that cancer will be the number one killer in Sri Lanka. we have to be prepared for that and this was the stepping stone towards that. To talk about Bridal Sri Lanka, we are one of the oldest bridal magazines in Sri Lanka supported by the Brides of Sri Lanka website as well. We launched the magazine App which is now available for the entire world and also we hosted the biggest bridal show in the history of Sri Lanka with over 140 brides and 50 designers taking on one stage in October 2013. So similarly the show on the September 18 will also have over 50 designers taking part”, Brides of Sri Lanka Managing Director Nelum Haththella said.

“We always produce unique and unconventional bridal shows. Hence we have two new inclusions in this particular show so that its not the usual one will see.

One will be Beach Bridal – as many of you would know, we have a lot of beach weddings where you’re clad in 6 yards of saree or huge bridal gown which is quite impractical with the weather conditions and all that. So we thought we will include bikini, beach wear, resort wear in bridal format which will be much more fun. It will be a foreign concept that we will bring to Sri Lanka as well. The next new segment will be Big is Beautiful. We will have plus sized models featured on the show due to many requests by real life brides and to break the monetary of skinny models on the ramp all the time. We believe that every bride is a model and she should be, she is loved by someone and so should we”, Nelum added.

This event which will be choreographed by Lou Ching Wong will be very theatrical set under the Great Gatsby theme. Everyone can comes dressed in the Gatsby theme or inspired by Gatsby or anything to do with the 1920s. Some of the renowned dressers and designers who will be showing their masterpieces will be Harris Wijesinghe, Ramani Fernando, Aslam Hussein, Johann Peiris, Ramzi Rahaman, Yoland Aluvihare, Fouzul Hameed (Hameedia), Ramona Oshini, Charini Suriyage, Indi Yapa Abeywardena, Dhananjaya Bandara, Indika Bandara, Romany De Mel, Romesh Atapattu, Brian Kerkoven, Kamil Hewavitharana, Dr. Anusha, Dil Sapukotange, Amali & Chathurika Jayawardena, Deepika & Hasini Gunasekara, Charith Wijesekara, Sumudu Wasantha, Baratha Indeera, Danushka Kuma, Indu Karunaratne, Surangi Wijeratne, Manik Hulangamuwa, Neeliya Mendis, Sumudu Kumarasiri, Anura & Sapumal, Dulci Haththella, Marina Perera, Wedding Dreams, Calla Bridal, Maya & Anuththara Weerasekara, Damith Cooray (Kiito), Imtiaz Hussain, Kanushka Sooriyabandara (Abba), PVS Jayaratne, Abisheka Mandapaya, and Iru Sandu Ransela Maligaya and more.
