THREE A/L STUDENTS STABBED AT BUS STOP

Three persons including a man who stabbed a group of students awaiting a bus at the Akuressa bus stand after answering the GCE Advanced Level examination chemistry paper, were arrested by Akuressa Police moments after the incident on August 13 afternoon. The three students who received cut injuries during the incident, were admitted to the Akuressa Hospital and two of them were later rushed to the Matara Hospital in a serious condition.

Among the injured are two students of Godapitiya National School  and an Advanced Level student returning after a tuition class. Among the three suspects arrested are two sons of a businessman in Akuressa. The victims of the incident had told Police that they had been cut with a knife to avenge a previous quarrel.

Earlier, the main suspect’s sister, who is supposed to be an actress, had attacked them with her belt at the bus stand.

The main suspect working at a meat stall in town who got wind of the squabble had rushed to the scene with some others and started attacking the students with the knife. A group of policemen on beat duty had immediately arrested the main suspect involved with another two colleagues.

They were due to be produced before the Matara Magistrate yesterday.
