SLPA to upgrade ports islandwide

Dhammika Ranatunga

The Port Authority plans to take immediate measures to launch a special project to upgrade the ports island wide, with the intention of generating more employment opportunities, Port Authority Chairman Dhammika Ranatunga said.

He said that before commencing this project, the authority had already taken measures to calculate the expenses and the income of the ports such as Colombo, Hambantota, Oluwil and Trincomalee, separately.

“It is also expected to start new mechanisms to strengthen and enhance the relationships with shipping companies within a month.” he added.

The minister further added that a proper mechanism was also implemented to make use of the non- permanent workers of the ports, recruited during the previous regime, without considering their educational levels.
