JO TO COMPLAIN TI IPU OVER NAMAL ARREST

The Joint Opposition will lodge a complaint with the Inter Parliamentary Union in Geneva against the political vendetta carried out against Namal Rajapaksa by taking him into custody, parliamentarian  Bandula Gunawardena said.

Addressing a press conference at the Vajirashrama Bauddha Madyasthanaya, Punchi Borella yesterday, summoned by the Joint Opposition’s Economic Research Committe, he said a complaint has not been made against Rajapaksa by any person who had given him money or any other party.

“But the JVP engaged in political deals was leveling unfounded charges against people driven by hatred and enmity. Rajapaksa had been arrested on a complaint by Wasantha Samarasinghe of the JVP alleging that Rajapaksa had misappropriated funds given for the development of rugby,” he said. Gunawardena said members of the Joint Opposition leading the anti-government campaign were being arrested on the compulsion of the JVP.

The Joint Opposition would not stop the campaign against the Central Bank Bond issue , fraudulent coal deal and the imposition of unaffordable taxes on the people even if its membership to the last are jailed, he said.
