Indo -Lanka trade tops US$ 4.71 bn in 2015

Bilateral trade between the India and Sri Lanka has topped US$ 4.71 billion dollar in 2015,Secretary to the Government of India Wadiya Singh said.

Speaking at the ICF CEO meeting held at Taj Samudra hotel yesterday he said that Sri Lanka was able to export US$ 6.45 million worth of goods to India while India exported US$ 4.6 million worth of goods to Sri Lanka.

Wadiya maintained that both countries have benefitted from the bilateral trade between the countries. It was also mentioned at the forum that India has invested over US $ 600 million and hope to reach the US$ 1 billion mark soon.The investments have also generated over 1800 job opportunities in Sri Lanka through these investments.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe who also attended the event revealed the economic plan for the country. He stated that Sri Lanka hopes to reduce the budget deficit by 3.5% and increase revenue by 16% by 2020.

He also stated that he hopes to convert the Port city as a financial hub with separate administration as a city primarily for business purposes.
