Film ‘Adaraneeya Kathawak’ violates statutory laws: Tobacco and Alcohol Authority

 

The National Authority on Tobacco and Alcohol (NATA) in a complaint to the Narahenpita Police alleged that the Sinhala film ‘Adaraneeya Kathawak’ (A Melody of Love) violates provisions of the National Authority on Tobacco and Alcohol Act.

In its complaint NATA said that the film, currently screening at movie theatres across the island, contains scenes depicting tobacco and alcohol consumption, in contravention to the National Authority on Tobacco and Alcohol Act.

Narahenpita Police filed a fact report in this regard, seeking a true copy of the film from the film Director, and the National Film Corporation (NFC).

When the case came up before Colombo Additional Magistrate Nishantha Peiris, Director Priyantha Colombage, the National Film Corporation Chairman and the Manager of the Majestic City Cinema were ordered to hand over the true copy of the film to the Narahenpita Police.

 

In its complaint NATA said that the film, currently screening at movie theatres across the island, contains scenes depicting tobacco and alcohol consumption, in contravention to the National Authority on Tobacco and Alcohol Act.
