Mahinda Amaraweera, Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development, Indira Malwatte, Chairperson & Chief Executive, Sri Lanka Export Development Board, Neil Fernando, Chairman and Imran Hassan, Managing Director, CDC Events and Travels (Pvt) Ltd at the event.

The Boat Show and Fisheries Exhibition Sri Lanka 2016 will be held from October 13 to 15 at the newly constructed international section Dickowita Fishery Harbour, Colombo.

The event is organized by Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB), Boat Building Technology Improvement Institute (BTI) in association with Ministry of Development Strategies and International Trade, Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources and Ministry of Industry & Commerce.

The objective of the event is to provide a single platform for all related business sectors involved directly and indirectly in the boat and ship building industry and fisheries sector to display and promote their respective sectors for potential clients,” said Imran Hassan, Managing Director, CDC Events and Travels (Pvt) Ltd. The first ever boat show in 2008 was opened up a new frontier for fishing, leisure, industrial and commercial vessels and marine tourism where 44 stalls displayed Sri Lankan capabilities. It attracted 80 foreign buyers and many local buyers and boat enthusiasts had visited the show.

“Following the success of the 2008 show, Sri Lanka continued this momentum by making the Boat Show a biannual event and organized its 2nd, 3 rd and 4th editions in 2010, 2012 and 2014 respectively. Boat Show Sri Lanka 2014 attracted over 10,000 visitors including around 300 foreign industry representatives from Maldives, Seychelles, Oman, Dubai, India, France, Belgium, UK, Germany, and Netherlands.”

The boat show Sri Lanka which is considered as the South Asia's most focused and largest international boat exhibition continues to build up a strong network for Sri Lankan Boat Industry. “The total number of stalls in this year is around 50 and there will be on water display of large boats as well.”

World Export Development Forum 2016 to be held on 12th and 13th October 2016 brings together over 600 business leaders, policymakers, heads of trade and investment support institutions and international trade development officials to visit the Boat show 2016.

Past Boat shows revealed that there are a large number of boating enthusiasts looking to own a boat and go leisure fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving and pleasure boating. The main hindering factor in the growth of leisure and pleasure boating is the total lack of boat parks and marinas.

Boat show 2016 will also focus its attention towards the government and private investment in marina development and management and establishment of boat parks with all the recreational amenities.

The potential in this sector is very encouraging and we hope the sector companies will take maximum use of the opportunity available to promote their business through the Boat Show 2016.

“This year through the boat show, we expect to generate at least over US$ 50 million worth of business from this sector.”

This 16th edition of WEDF is co-hosted by ITC and the Ministry of Development Strategies and International Trade of Sri Lanka, through the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB). This is a unique global conference and business-to-business (B2B) matchmaking platform dedicated to supporting trade-led development.
