Govt to position Colombo Port as best in the region

Sri Lanka Ports Authority is currently facing a massive Rs. 232 billion debt said minister of Ports and Shipping Arjuna Ranatunge.

Speaking at the Meet the Minister program organised by the National Chamber of Commerce, the Minster said that this debt is mainly accumulated as expenses for the Hambantota Harbour. He said that though the Hambantota harbour is very strategic the expenses made for it not justifiable. “However we are now talking to both local and foreign investors to invest in this southern port so that it can attract additional revenue.”

The Minister said that they are now recording profits from the Colombo Port and are talking to investors who have shown interest investing in the expansions.

“This will help Colombo Port to be positioned as the best harbour in the region.”
