Disaster Management Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa invited all parties to work together for the upkeep of flood victims setting aside criticisms.
He requested the accusers not to take political mileage out of the flood situation. He made these comments when essential goods worth US $ 4,000,000 were donated by the Chinese government to the flood victims of Sri Lanka yesterday. The donation included 1,000 tents and 3,000 field beds.
Minister Yapa received the goods from Chinese Ambassador Xian Liang at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) on the instructions of the President and the Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, US $ 1.5 billion was donated by the Chinese government to build a China-Sri Lanka Friendship Village for those who lost their houses in floods and landslides.
“This donation bears witness to the long lasting friendship between Sri Lanka and China. China has come for our assistance during our times of need,” the minister said.
Eight members of the Relief and Health Department of the Chinese Red Cross arrived in the country to assist flood victims.
“We will assist flood victims to prepare field beds and tents. We will also look into their health. A meeting will be held with the minster at the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) to discuss our programmes,” Chinese Red Cross Relief and Health Department Deputy Director Yang Xusheng said.
