Annual Abdul Jabbar Shield Rugby clash :Isiathana thrashes Thurstan 48-nil

 Gallant Isipathana College, Colombo rugby team dished out a superb brand of running rugby even in rainy condition to beat arch rivals Thurstan College, Colombo by a sensational 48 points (8 tries, 4 conversions) to nil, in their annual Abdul Jabbar Shield Rugby encounter played yesterday at CR & FC grounds in Longden Place. The winners led 15-nil at half time.

The match got off to a rousing start with both teams battling it out for supremacy where Isipathana drew first blood when their speedy winger Ranindu Pramod touched down for a try near the left corner flag. Pramod himself missed the conversion and Pathana went in to a 5-nil lead.

In the 23rd minute of the game, off a turn over ball number eight Sashmitha Fernando went over the line for a fabulous try. Pramod missed the conversion and Pathana went into a 10-nil lead.

Soon after in the 34th minute of the game Pathana full back Dileka Fernando sprinted his way to score far right. Pramod ones again missed the conversion to go into the half time with the score reading Isipathana 15 to Thurstan nil.

After the turn around Isipathana went further ahead with two back to back tries scored through their winger Ranindu Pramod while Pramod himself made both conversions and Isipathana lead 29 points to nil.

Within couple of minutes Pathana further increased their lead when their number eight Sashmitha Fernando touched down for a superb try, Pramod missed the conversion but Isipathana increased their tally to 34-nil.

Isipathana College virtually sealed the match with two back to back tries in the closing stages of the game through vice captain cum centre Sumudhu Rankothge and winger Nadeesha Chaminda, which Pramod ones again put over both conversions to take the final score to a runaway 48 points to nil victory in the end.
