Crocodiles near houses in Kelaniya, walking track in Bellanwila

Crocodiles were seen near residential areas in Kelaniya and Bellanwila yesterday, as a result of rising flood levels.

Some residents were alarmed by the appearance of a crocodile near the walking tracks in Bellanwila on Tuesday. Another crocodile was seen close to some houses in the Kelaniya area last morning.

Speaking to the Daily News, residents said the development posed a serious serious threat to their safety as crocodiles were seen at the gates of their houses.

They said the crocodiles had come from the Kelani river where water levels rose rapidly over the past few days. The residents said they were not in a position to inform the Police or the wildlife authorities as they were struggling with flood waters.
