Air Force in air rescue to save fishermen

Air Force Bell 412 rescued two fishermen from a capsized boat in the sea off Pitipana, Negombo yesterday, Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) Media Spokesman Group Captain Chandima Alwis said.

According to him, the Air crew and the four member rescue team were on board in this rescue mission conducted by the No 04 helicopter squadron at SLAF Base Ratmalana.

The rescue operation was conducted under the directions of Base Commander SLAF Base Katunayake Air Commodore Sagara Kotakadeniya. The rescue team had been deployed for the operation following a telephone call received by Katunayake Base Commodore from a fisheries organisation.

“Our crew were unable to find the fishermen who faced an accident in the seas during the first turn.”

“Another two went from ashore and informed the rescue team. They rescued both fishermen”, Group Captain Alwis said.

Jude Ranjith and Newton, the two rescued fishermen were admitted to the Air Force Hospital after they were brought ashore and transferred to the Negombo hospital for further treatment.
