Vidusha, Nadeesha set up new meet records

 Vidusha Lakshani and Nadeesha Ramanyake set up two new meet records on day two of the 54th Sri Lanka Junior Athletics Championship held at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium, Diyagama, Homagama yesterday.

Sri Lanka Army's Lakshani, shattered the Under-23 Triple Jump record with a distance of 13.34m to surpass the qualifying standards for the 17th Asian Junior Athletics Championship, winning the gold medal. Ramanayake also from the Army established a new meet record in the 800m final with a record time of 2:09.26 seconds to secure the gold medal.

Two more meet records were equalled by MHI Sandaruwan of Sri Lanka Air Force and High Jumper Sapan Senaratne of Lyceum International School, Wattala.

Pole Vaulter Sandaruwan cleared 4.70 metres competing in the Under-23 category winning the gold medal while Senaratne, who also qualified for the Vietnam Championship, leaped 2.06 metres to win the gold medal. These were the highlights of the rain-affected second day of the four-day meet.

Under-18 High Jump: 1 Sapan Senaratne (Lyceum International School, Wattala) 2.06m (EMR), 2 PHP Jayaranga (President's College, Minuwangoda) 1.90m, 3 SA Tharindu Dushan (Mahinda College, Galle) 1.85m.

Girls:

Under-23 Triple Jump: 1 Vidusha Lakshani (Sri Lanka Army) 13.34m (NMR), 2 WMKTM Wijesinghe (Royal CC) 11.57m, 3 Deepika Jayaratne (Sri Lanka University Sports Association) 11.01m.

Under-23 800m: 1 Nadeesha Ramanayake (Sri Lanka Army) 2:09.26 sec (NMR), 2 JMNUK Jayasundara (Sri Lanka Army) 2:11.58 sec, 3 AHMP Abeysinghe (A Ratnayake CC, Walala) 2:27.40 sec.
