Mudslide near Samanala Wewa, Balangoda damages temple

A mudslide near the Samanala Wewa, Balangoda has resulted in damages to a nearby temple with the whereabouts of the temple’s monk being unknown.

Disaster Management Centre (DMC) Deputy Director Pradeep Kodippili told the Daily News that the Police were still on the lookout for the monk,

He also suspected that a Police check point might have also been caught in the mud slide and Police are conducting further investigations to ascertain the accuracy of the reports. The mudslide occurred at around 4.15 p.m. yesterday and if the rains continue, Kodippili said the situation would worsen and they would have to consider closing the main Ratnapura - Badulla Road.
