Due to the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ, the area where the Northern and Southern hemispheric winds meet) south of Sri Lanka showers over the country will be enhanced, the Department of Meteorology added.
Showers or thundershowers will occur over most parts of the island particularly after 2.00 pm. Showers may occur in the Eastern and Southern coastal areas in the morning too.
Fairly heavy falls (above 75mm) are also likely at some places. There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity, Department of Meteorology stated in its forcast.
