Prompt water supply project for Wilgamuwa affected by kidney disease

Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister Faiszer Musthapha looking into shortcomings at the Wilgamuwa Divisional Secretariat

The Provincial Councils and Local Government Ministry will set up a water supply project in the Wilgamuwa Divisional Secretariat, where the majority of people suffer from chronic kidney disease.

Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister Faiszer Musthapha who visited underdeveloped villages in the Wilgamuwa Divisional Secretariat, instructed the officers to look into this matter.

The ministry has planned to supply the public in Wilgamuwa DS with purified water from the Mahaweli River. The project will be implemented under the Pura Naguma programme carried out by the ministry.

Musthapha has also decided to construct three bridges in Wilgamuwa DS. Work will be carried out under the programme of constructing rural bridges.

One bridge is to be constructed from Kumbukandana to Akkara Kala across Kumbukandana Oya, which would enable 3,500 people of Wilgamuwa to save six km of travelling to the other side from around the village.

Another bridge will be constructed from Naminioya to Arunodaya farm across Namini Oya. The existing bridge is broken. About 3,000 villagers will benefit.

The other bridge is to be constructed joining Lendiyangala and Veheragala across Minipe canal. The existing bridge with a width of one feet was constructed about 40 years ago. This construction will benefit about 3,000 villagers including students in Lediyangala primary college.

Musthapha instructed officers to provide funds to complete construction of a playground at Handungamuwa PrimarySchool.

He said provisions will be allocated from the ministry to build a library for the school.

After discussing issues at Wilgamuwa Hospital, Minister Musthapha offered funds to repair the water filter in the hospital.

He also promised to construct a house for an underprivileged family.
