SLPA strike temporarily called off after talks with PM

 

The Joint Trade Unions Forum of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority temporarily called off their strike yesterday following discussions with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The strike was temporarily called off after the Prime Minister assured that Rs. 4,170 deducted from the bonus given to the employees on April 4 will be paid back, Joint Trade Unions Forum convener Prasannna Kulathunga said. The employees are given Rs. 65,000 in April

as bonus and the administration cut off Rs. 4,170 from that too. When the Prime Minister was informed, he instructed the officials to pay it back to the employees immediately, he explained.

Kulathunga said the Prime Minister has assured that the five major demands of the unions which includes Rs. 150,000 as bonus and the request to remove Ports Authority Chairman Dammika Ranatunga and Ports and Shipping Minister Arjuna Ranathunga will be taken up for discussion after the New Year.
