Ven. Muruththettuwe Ananda Thera of the Abhayarama Viharaya in Narahenpita, yesterday filed a lawsuit against Ven. Pathberiye Wimala Gnana Thera claiming one billion rupees as damages for allegedly making a false and defamatory statement through a newspaper interview on February 7, 2016.
In the lawsuit, Ven. Pathberiye Wimala Gnana Thera the Chief Incumbent of Kirulapana Purwarama cited as the defendant.
Ven. Ananda Thera alleged that in an interview to a national newspaper by the defendant monk included false and defamatory remarks under the heading of 'who is the owner of Abhayaramaya?'
The plaintiff stated alleged defamatory statement had given a wrong impression to the general public and the defendant had made this statement with wrongful intention to defame or injure to him. The petitioner alleged that the concerned statement caused damage to his reputation and thereby he claimed a sum of one billion rupees as damages.
