Mahinda Yapa allegedly misused Rs. 2.5 m state funds - Counsel

 

Former Agriculture Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena has allegedly misused nearly Rs. 2.5 million of state funds during his tenure of office as minister, Senior State Counsel Janaka Bandara said giving evidence before the Presidential Commission Investigating Fraud, Corruption, Abuse of Power, State Resources and Privileges (PRECIFAC).

Janaka Bandara said the money had been allegedly misused during the Southern Provincial Council elections and to deploy employees to fulfill vehicle needs of various people. These were ministry funds destined for use on behalf of the farmer generation considered to be the heart of the nation.

Counsel Bandara said these findings made by Sub Inspector Amerasinghe and Constable Wijesinghe (476) have been submitted as evidence in writing.
