Magistrate orders submission of expert panel report

 

Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya yesterday ordered Deputy Director of the Colombo National Hospital Dr Anil Jasinghe to submit a report of an expert panel of doctors on the details of the death certificate of former Chief Incumbent of the Kotte Naga Viharaya Ven. Madoluwawe Sobitha Thera.

The Chief Magistrate issued this order following the submission by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) before the Court that the expert knowledge of a panel of doctors is required for the continuation of the investigation on the passing away of the Ven.Sobitha Thera which was initiated based on a statement made by Ven.Uduwe Dhammaloka Thera.

The CID submitted that the expert view is required on not holding a postmortem on the remains of Ven Sobitha Thera, the details on the death in the death certificate, surgery undergone by the Ven Thera and if the death could be caused by surgery and the medication taken by the Ven.Thera.

The CID also submitted that the CID has informed the directors of Colombo National Hospital, Central Hospital, Nevil Fernando Hospital to provide details of the dates when Ven. Sobitha Thera was admitted and discharged from the hospitals and the treatment and medication given to the Thera during his stay in the respective hospitals before his passing away.

The CID informed Court that the main objective of these investigations is to clarify if the details of the death certificate issued by the Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore tallies with the health conditions and the medication that Ven. Sobitha Thera was prescribed.
