‘Communalists trying to destroy reconciliation programme’

A small clique clinging on to communalism are trying to return to power by hook or by crook, by attempting to upset the country’s National and Religious reconciliation programme, spreading false rumours about a superficial threat to national security, Jathika Samagi Chairman Padanama Manilal de Silva said.

Addressing a press conference in Kandy, he said National Unity is the basis for lasting peace and the country’s future achievements depended on the existence of lasting peace and reconciliation.

He said exponents of communalism had been totally rejected by the people at two consecutive elections and they were making a futile bid to rise up from their quagmire by spreading false rumours. He said his foundation was engaged in uniting people throughout the country and they have planned to conduct a special seminar on this subject at the Polgolla Co-operative School on April 3 by getting down people resident in the Ampara and Batticaloa Districts to attend it.
