Each Grama Niladhari Division in the country has been allocated Rs. 1 million by the government under the Rural Development Programme announced in the 2016 budget.
Divisional Level officer have been informed that Grama Niladhari Divisional Level proposals should be submitted to the Divisional Co-ordinating Committees. Divisional Secretaries have been instructed by circular that funds should be allocated to projects that fall under the following categories: Raising household income, Accelerated generation of of rural employment, Enhancement of infrastructure and Enhancement of rural connectivity.
SLFP and UNP ministers and MPs of the Yahapalanaya national unity government have been appointed co-chairmen of the Divisional Coordinating Committees and will each submit proposals for 5 lakhs.
