Govt lacks expertise to take country forward - Gota

Former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa connecting via Skype video conferencing yesterday told a meeting held between Sri Lankans living in Japan and the members of the Joint Opposition that the government in Sri Lanka is unable to take the country forward as it lacks required expertise.

He said those who are in the government said it was they who ended the war, had been in the Army for more than 35 years.

They could not improve national security. On the contrary, it was worsening. They proposed that we may bring back those army barracks positioned in the Jaffna peninsula. Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa won the war providing his leadership in the social, political and the international spheres as the President and Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, he said.

"The current government took a country that was developing and which was without a war. However, within about year since their ascent to govern the country, they have brought the country's development to a standstill. The position of the country's national security too has not moved forward. It has declined," he said.

"Nothing is happening, except actions that are revengeful," he said.

"I am ready to give my support to save the country from the abyss it has fallen into," he said.
