Powerful generators to ensure uninterrupted water suppy

A water supply project in the east

Plans are afoot at the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) to bring in high powered generators to ensure that the water purification plants receive an uninterrupted supply of electricity. NWSDB Chairman, K. A. Ansar, told the Daily News that a contingency plan was being worked off to prevent water cuts in the event of another power outage.

“The Water Board has a priority line from the Ceylon Electricity Board to all our purification plants so that we receive an uninterrupted electricity supply,” he said.

“todayday even that line was disconnected.” At around 3.45 p.m. today the Ambathale, Biyagama and the Kandana came to a halt following an islandwide power failure. Water supply to most areas was only restored on today morning.
