Kuliyapitiya boy gets Trinity

 

The Education Ministry yesterday entered into an understanding with Trinity College, Kandy to enroll the boy in Kuliyapitiya who was denied school admission due

to a false rumour that he was infected with HIV. The Management of Trinity College, Kandy has expressed their willingness to enroll the child to the college and bear all expenses related to his education until he leaves the school.

The Old Boys Union of the College made a proposal to the Trinity College management to explore the possibility of getting this child admitted to the college and a representative of College's Old boys had met the child's mother to discuss this proposal too.

Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam and Trinity College Principal Andrew Floler Watt signed the MoU on behalf of the Education Ministry and the Trinity College management in the presence of Bishop of Colombo Rt.Rev.Dhiloraj Ranjith Canagasabey and senior officials of the education ministry.

The boy's mother has agreed to have her son admitted to Trinity College to ensure a good education.

The Government is also expected to intervene in the welfare of the child and the mother in the future.

This six- year- old child who has been medically tested HIV Negative was denied school admission due to continuous protests by the parents of other students and education authorities.

It is learnt that the Kurunegala Zonal Director had issued a letter denying the child a place in the school, and recommending that the child be placed under probationary care.
