Abortion racket in the plantations bared

A Non Government Organisation conducting a programme to promote abortion among plantation sector women is reported to have distributed a sticker giving the names of several abortion clinics and their contact numbers throughout the plantation areas, Kotagala MOH Dr Janath Abeygunawardene has lodged a complaint to the IGP about this abortion racket requesting him to order an investigation to identify the culprits behind the racket.

Reports said this organization had distributed the sticker at a workshop on sex and reproduction health held recently.

The Kotagala Family Health officer who attended the workshop had also received this sticker and she had notified the MOH about it.

The MOH is of the view that the high incidence of maternal deaths in the Nuwara Eliya district may have been caused due to this abortion racket.
