Sri Lanka Kurash Association (SLKA) with the blessings of International Kurash Association will conduct training programmes island wide to promote this traditional martial art of Uzbekistan in Sri Lanka. Officials including chairman Haider Farman, secretary Umid Yakubor , Assistant Vice President of the world governing body and chairman of Indian Kurash Association Jagdish Tyler and its secretary Ravi Kapoor have extended their fullest support to popularize the sport in Sri Lanka.
Accordingly Sri Lanka Kurash Association members will receive foreign training in order to bring this new sport to outstations. SLKA has planned to conduct awareness programmes and exhibition tournaments in selected schools and Sports Clubs in every district.
As the Initial step, training camps for players , coaches, referees and Judges will be carried out in Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara districts of Western Province. Another introduction exhibition tournament has been arranged for the officers of Sports Ministry, Education Ministry, Military Services, Sport Clubs and Schools with the support of players attached to Military Forces who are already doing well in the sport.
All these training programs will be conducted free and if you have practiced Judo, Wrestling, Ssiruem, Unifight, Sambo and Angampora it will be an advantage in learning this martial art. After completion of training in all districts, SLKA is expecting to conduct senior and junior Kurash Nationals before the year ends.
Uditha Peiris is the one who has taken this initiative to promote and develop Kurash in Sri Lanka. He has represented the World Kurash Champianship and excelled in several martial arts. Kurash is popular in more than 100 countries around the world and has been included in three future Asian level competitions, namely Asian Summer Games 2018, Asian Indoor and Martial Art Games 2017 and Asian Beach Games 2016.
SLKA has announced that they will conduct training programmes at their training institute in Panadura and invites interested individuals, schools and sports clubs to take part in training. Talented individuals will have the opportunity to participate In foreign training. SLKA also willing to conduct free training sessions and exhibition contests on request.
