Field Martial Sarath Fonseka had however to string along with the United National Party ever since he had missed the bus as a Presidential candidate of the UNP at a previous election, said political analyst Mohan Samaranayaka.
Samaranayaka was commenting on the UNP's decision to bring the Field Martial to Parliament to fill the vacant seat of late Lands Minister M. K.A.D.S.Gunawardana.
"Besides, the sightliness of those who have lost at previous elections sitting with the government is not uncommon in Parliament, wary of its appropriateness or its inappropriateness," he said.
"The way things are, he will play a role which the United National Party would ask him to," he said remembering media reports which hinted Fonseka was to be appointed as a Minister of Law and Order.
According to UNP sources there was no such decision as yet to give him a ministerial portfolio.
