Chilaw Plantation Company funds misused: PRECIFAC

The PRECIFAC in its investigations revealed that funds of the state-owned Chilaw Plantation Company had been heavily misused for the Presidential election, Uva Provincial Council and May Day propaganda campaigns.

Even though it had been stated that the money was taken to provide relief measures to the displaced and provide aid to flood victims, the money had been spent for political propaganda campaigns. Sources said investigating officers found out 17 irregularities amounting to approximately Rs 12.5 million relating to this fraud.

These include spending for the Presidential election campaign, printing posters and handouts for the Uva Provincial Council election and providing various clothes to those participating in the May Day rally.

Meanwhile, it has also been revealed that a 15 percent commission had been taken from advertisements broadcast on television and radio to promote liquid milk. Investigations revealed the involvement of former SLBC Chairman Husdson Samarasinghe in this regard. The Commission will record a statement from him.
