Common Oppn condemns PM's statement

UPFA parliamentarian Dullas Alahapperuma yesterday said President Maithripala Sirisena, the Free Media Movement, Western countries and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party should reveal their position over the statement made by

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in Parliament with regard to the conduct of some journalists and media organisations.

"The members of the common opposition condemn this statement. It is an attempt to intimidate and frighten the journalists," he said.

Alahapperuma said the statement made by the Prime Minister in Parliament over the conduct of journalists and media institutions is a disgrace to his father and grand father who left an indelible imprint in the history of the country's media sector.

"The Prime Minister who pioneered in bringing the Right to Information Bill is in the habit of terrorising media personnel," he said.
