Rajitha responds to allegations

Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said if his relatives are at SAITM, the best thing he could do is to demand the government to take over SAITM. "One of my younger brothers was at the Ragama (then private) Medical Faculty and I opposed it. He later got a better and well recognised degree because it was taken over by the government," Dr. Senaratne said issuing a special statement on SAITM.

Minister Senaratne said a cordial discussion was held at Temple Trees between the GMOA and the government represented by the Prime Minister, himself, International Trade Minister Malik Samarawickrama, Secretaries of Health Ministry and the Finance Ministry and other officials. All issues especially salary issues, vehicle permit issue, SAITM etc were discussed at this meeting.

Dr. Senaratne pointed out that as a policy, the GMOA agreed to have a private medical faculty but their issue is the quality and standard of the education provided by it. "Discussions were also held in connection with the judicial process connected to the SAITM issue.

The GMOA thanked all of us."
