Avant Garde withdraws writ petition

A writ petition filed by Avant Garde Security Services Pvt. Ltd and its director retired Major Nissanka Senadhipathi seeking an order directing the Colombo District Secretary to issue the relevant licenses pertaining to 91 repeater and

bore guns for 2016 was withdrawn before the Court of Appeal by the petitioners yesterday. The Counsel appearing for the petitioners informed Court that the petitioners have already received the relevant licenses and thereby they want to withdraw the case.

The Court of Appeal Bench comprising Justice Vijith K. Malalgoda and Justice Devika Livera de Tennakoon allowed the petitioners to withdraw the petition.

In this petition, the petitioners cited the Senior Superintendent Police of Mirihana, Headquarters Inspector of Mirihana, OIC Administration at Mirihana, DIG Colombo South, Inspector General of Police, the Defence Ministry Secretary, Colombo District Secretary and the Attorney General as respondents.

The petitioners stated that due to the requirement of their clientele they have legally purchased 12 bore shot guns and 12 bore repeater shot guns from the Sri Lanka Army with Defence Ministry permission.

They said the first set of 12 guns were purchased in 2002.
