MIA to shed its paddy stocks from today

Rural Economy Ministry will start removing paddy stocks stored at the Mattala International Airport from today.

According to ministry spokesman R. M. S. D. Ratnayake, over 4,054 mts of paddy stored at the ware house of the airport will be removed and rural Economy Minister P. Harrison is expected to witness the removal of paddy from the Airport warehouses.

The airport built on Chinese funds had been used as a paddy storage facility temporarily as the government was faced with a warehouse scarcity to store paddy purchased from the farmers in the Hambantota district.
