A wild tusker known as 'Kabara Atha' which had been limping in severe pain in the Kaladiya jungle due to an injury on one of his legs, was tranquilised by Wildlife Department officials and released to the jungle after treatment on January 8. Dr. Chandana Jayasinghe said the elephant was treated on several occasions due to the earlier treatment not being effective. They have requested residents of the area to monitor the pachyderm's movements as its condition was not that reliable.
