Joint Opp. warns govt. against move to draft new Constitution

The Joint Opposition yesterday, warned that strong action would be taken against the government's move to draft a new Constitution in contravention of Standing Orders.

According to MP Dinesh Gunawardena, the UNP and SLFP were in the same stance over the matter. But several other parties including the TNA and MEP are in another stance.

Gunawardena further said the joint opposition had informed the government that the move to bring a new Constitution is against Standing Orders of the Constitution.

"We have had discussens with the Prime Minister and Speaker in this regard, the Joint Opposition said.
