SB hints at parting of ways

Long term togetherness of the two main democratic parties of the country will lead to the rise of extremists both racial and religious , Rural Economic Affairs Minister S.B.Dissanayake said.

Addressing the media yesterday at the SLFP Headquarters, Minister Dissanayake said that the SLFP and UNP are totally different parties which cannot work together for a long time.

"I personally believe that there is no need for these two main democratic parties of the country to work together as it will lead to harmful consequences.

President Maithirpal Sirisena has won the challenge of finding a way to protect the country." he said.He also said that certain elements attempted to realize their political dreams by dividing the UPFA into small groups. But under the leadership of President Maithripala Sirisena, discussions have already been held with nine political parties to make the UPFA a powerful alliance. Another four parties have also expressed their willingness to join with the UPFA. "We will also discuss with them", he added.

As a powerful alliance, the UPFA is ready to engage in a very successful election campaign under the leadership of President Maithripala Sirisena.

"We are fully confident of the party's victory as we hope that former Presidents Mahinda Rajapaksa and Chandrika Bandaranaike will also extend their support towards the victory of the SLFP." the Minister stressed. He also noted that during the one year period after the Presidential Election, they couldn't decide anything properly as it was a transition period in which they all had to work under a busy schedule.

He further added that due to the friendly relationships maintained by President Maithripala Sirisena with powerful countries he could save former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, former Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa as well as the war heroes of the country from the war crimes charges leveled against them. Its a pride to the SLFP and the UPFA.
