Criminal flees despite injuries on arm

A notorious criminal escaped the clutches of Police after attempting to throw a hand grenade at the officers who tried to arrest him at his home in Athurugiriya yesterday.

The suspect believed to be an underworld leader had fled despite being wounded in the arm due to shooting by Police.

Police had reportedly opened fire when the suspect attempted to throw a grenade. Police had come to the suspect’s house after receiving information that he had arrived there yesterday morning. The suspect is said to be a re convicted criminal wanted in connection with a spate of robberies.
