Artistes play pivotal role in building society - President

 

President Maithripala Sirisena said artistes could play a pivotal role in building a disciplined society rich in moral values. He said this at the State Musical Awards held at the BMICH on December 17.

The State Musical Awards, organized by the Department of Cultural Affairs aims to honour and encourage musicians, and to raise standards for high-quality music in society.

The President said the government would fulfill its duty towards artistes, to uplift the musical industry as they enrich the nation.

Musicians and artists are accepted the world over, the President said adding that the government would provide every possible support to create an environment in which prominent artistes as well as junior artistes could conquer the world through their talents and skills.

The President also presented awards to the winners.

The event was attended by a large number of singers, musicians, Ministers, officials and other dignitaries.
