Conflict victims compensated

President Mahinda Rajapaksa granted compensation to families from the North who suffered losses during the conflict in the form of loss of lives, physical injuries and damage to properties, during a ceremony at Temple Trees yesterday. This was the first stage of the above initiative. During yesterday's ceremony, the President granted compensation to 1,200 people.

The Rehabilitation Authority said that a total sum of Rs. 85 million had been allocated for the purpose. The rest of the people who had suffered losses due to the conflict would be provided with compensation in the near future. This initiative was enacted by the government, by utilizing funds allocated for the purpose for 2013, in concurrence with recommendations of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC).

The event was organized by the Rehabilitation Authority.
